Answer
A
Explanation
The smallest unit of an element which can exist and still have the properties of that element is called an atom. Atoms are made up of subatomic particles: electrons, protons, and neutrons. However, these particles themselves do not possess the unique physical and chemical properties of the element as a whole. While subatomic particles such as protons, electrons, and neutrons, constitute an atom; they can exist separately from the atom, but in that case, the properties are not reminiscent of the element. Hence, the atom is considered as the smallest unit of an element.
